Bonjour BP families,

We look forward to hosting students from Reunis en Francophonie this week. These are a selection of students from Western Canada High School and Westgate School who partake in activities that promote the use of French Language and involve cultural elements in French. Our schools put forth a grant request for federal funds through the OLEP (Official Languages in Education Program) so that we are able to bring in artists to work with students in French, and show that French exists beyond the doors of the classroom. The group has been able to participate in French improvisation, artwork, and music. Not to be forgotten, poutine and patisseries bien sur!

Spring Band Concert

Our band students are thrilled to welcome you to their spring concert on June 4, from 3:30-5:00 PM in the main gym. Please join and show your support for our students and live music! Lots of fun to be had.

Teacher Decisions on Class Assignments

As teachers gather to make class lists for our next year students, we wish to remind families that their child’s class placement will be determined through the careful lens of teachers working together in teams to ensure the best possible classroom composite. Teacher decisions are rooted in a strong instructional and social/emotional rationale. Many students have been together since early elementary at our various feeder schools.  As students grow and mature, preparing them for high school includes living with a certain degree of uncertainty.  Only through embracing this uncertainty and new opportunities to develop relationships with others do adolescents grow in their level of preparedness for their future worlds.  We stand by our instructional decisions, which have been made with the best insight and in a collaborative approach between teachers.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

PowerSchool and Report Card Entry

Please note that as of May 29, the parent view on grades in PowerSchool will be disabled for teachers to start the process of report card entry. If you have any questions about your child's achievement, please do not hesitate to connect with their teachers. Teachers will still be collecting and assessing work throughout the month of June.

Yellow School Bus Registration is Now Open for 2026-27

Families can now apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. To ensure service is in place for the first day of classes, registrations must be received by Sunday, June 14. Registrations submitted after this date will be accepted; however, access to bus routes may be delayed. Of note:

  • A banner story outlining service levels and proposed fees has been posted to the corporate and school websites.
  • Conditional Rider forms will be available starting Monday, June 15.
  • Confirmed bus routes will be posted for families who registered by the deadline in MyCBE in late August.
  • The transportation fee has increased from $360 to $500/rider and from $180 to $250 for one-way kindergarten riders.

For several years, CBE was able to limit fee increases by using surplus funds to help offset rising costs. These funds were generated by delaying the implementation of shorter transportation eligibility distances for two years. However, those surplus funds are now nearly exhausted.

At the same time, transportation costs have continued to rise, driven by factors such as increased fuel prices and the need for specialized supports. As a result, a fee increase is necessary to balance the budget and maintain current service levels for students.

We remain committed to supporting families. Fee waivers and supports will be available to ensure students continue to access the transportation services they need.

Families can cancel without financial impact by submitting a cancellation form by Sept. 30.
