BP Weekly Updates | September 26, 2023

Bonjour BP families:

Thank you to all students and families who took part in our Meet the Teacher evening on September 21. It was wonderful to see families meeting teachers and going through a junior high school schedule with their students. A great turn out, and fantastic to put faces to names. If you missed the session on how PowerSchool works (here, you get all sorts of information on your child's attendance and grades), please see PowerSchool Guide for Parents

If you haven't had the chance yet, please ask your child(ren) how the pep rally was last Thursday. There was an abundance of sequins, a spirit stick, and a whole lot of excitement! Our leadership students played a key role in setting the stage for student belonging and pride at Bishop Pinkham.

Basketball Schedule

This week basketball season commences.  All CBE middle schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect, and a positive experience for all.  They include:

  • All student spectators must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult
  • There are no in an out privileges for spectators
  • Student spectators without adult supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building
  • All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner
  • Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building

Orange Shirt Day – Thursday

We have launched the school year by focusing on classroom learning related to our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through education.  Contemplating truth seeking and resilience is one of the ways our community is committing to the reconciliation process. Bishop Pinkham School’s commitment this school year is to build student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect. Specific learning related to the significance of Orange Shirt Day will occur this week.  Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt. Families may wish to visit the Orange Shirt Society website with their children to learn more about what inspired the movement: https://orangeshirtday.org/phyllis-story/

Terry Fox Run

Bishop Pinkham Junior High School ran a collective 1503 kms on Sept 20th. That’s from Vancouver to Swift Current!   Our school goal is to raise $1500, and we have raised $1170 so far. For those wishing to make an online donation, you can do so at this link https://schools.terryfox.ca/31142 Thank you for coming on board and making a commitment to continue Terry’s legacy by supporting life-changing cancer research in Canada.
