Personal Technology at School
We would like to provide an important reminder regarding the use of personal technology at school.
Under the Alberta Ministerial Order on the Restriction of Personal Mobile Devices in Schools (2024), students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time. This includes devices that can record, photograph, or communicate in ways that may compromise learning environments or the privacy of others.
Recently, Meta Smart Glasses (including Ray‑Ban Meta models) have been brought to school by a small number of students. Although these glasses look similar to regular eyewear, they include built‑in cameras, microphones, and the ability to connect to mobile apps. Because of these features, Meta Glasses are classified as personal mobile devices under the provincial order.
For privacy, safety, and compliance reasons:
- Meta Smart Glasses are not permitted at school.
- Students who bring them will be asked to store them securely in their locker or to take them home. Regular eyewear without recording capabilities is, of course, fully allowed.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all students.
