Bonjour BP families.

As we have seen snow and dropping temperatures this week, please remember that students will still be outside for PE, and to bring the appropriate clothing (toque, mitts/gloves, outdoor footwear) for colder weather.

BP Debate Club Offer

Mr. Benarzi will be offering debate club for interested students at BP. The aim of the club is to introduce students to Canadian National Style Debate. This club is open to students who may be interested in competing at regional and provincial tournaments, as well as students who want to improve their speaking and critical thinking skills.

The club will initially run at lunch on Wednesdays in room 12. Students will be introduced to the format and strategies of Canadian National debate — how to structure their speeches, how to engage with their partner and their opponents, and advanced strategies for creating strong arguments.

If students are interested in competing at local tournaments, they may be able to do so this year (in January and February). However, the main intent is to foster a debate community that would set Bishop Pinkham up for success next year. Mr. Benarzi  has coached debate in Calgary for seven years and is currently the vice president of the Alberta Debate and Speech Association. It is his hope to bring this expertise to Bishop Pinkham during his time here.

If you have any questions, you may email him at ambenarzi@cbe.ab.ca

BPPA Casino Volunteers Requested - we still need 19 volunteers!

The Bishop Pinkham Parents Association (BPPA) will be operating our next BP casino fundraiser on December 20 and 21, 2024 at the Elbow River Casino (218-18 Ave SE). This event happens only once every 2 years and our last one provided over $73,000, which the school used to fund field trips, artist-in-residence programs and the Grade 9 farewell celebration.

We require 36 volunteers to run our casino and based on the last one, each volunteer earned over $2,000 per 8 hour shift or $250 per hour for our school. This fundraiser provides amazing value for both the volunteers' time and funds raised for Bishop Pinkham school.

Absolutely no experience is necessary as all training will be provided at the casino, in addition to a free meal and parking. Volunteers need to be a minimum of 18 years of age and can be BP family members, friends or neighbours. Please consider signing up for a shift using the link below.
