Bonjour BP families.
Our school year is well underway with rich learning and teaching, coupled with many extracurricular sports such as cross country running, soccer, and basketball. We have seen some lunchtime clubs pop up as well for students to experience such as Café Ole, Drama, QSA, and Dungeons and Dragons. Thank you to all staff giving their time to make memorable experiences for students.
Basketball Games at BP
Basketball games start this week – we have partnered with the other schools (McKenzie Highlands, Dr. George Stanley, Dr. Martha Cohen, Louis Riel, John Ware, Woodman, Samuel W. Shaw, MidSun, Lakeshore, and Mountain Park) in our division for similar policies so that everyone has the same messaging. Below is our common spectator policy. Our goal is to ensure a safe, caring, and welcoming environment for all who attend games hosted at BP and at our other CBE schools. We value participation and skill development over winning and remind all spectators that teachers, coaches, student helpers are volunteering their time.
- Student spectators from other schools will not be granted access to BP and our gym unless they are accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- If accompanied by a parent/guardian, student spectators may enter the gym, with the parent/guardian, to watch their school compete.
o They are to remain in the gym unless using the washroom.
o They are to cheer in a positive manner. - The student spectator leaves when the parent/guardian leaves.
o Student spectators who are dropped off will not be given access to the building. - Inappropriate behaviour by a student spectator will be addressed by school admin. If it occurs a second time, they and their parent/guardian will be directed to leave.
o Depending on the issue, a trespass warning may be issued to that student. - Inappropriate behaviour by a parent/guardian/family member will be addressed immediately by school admin. If it occurs a second time, the game will be stopped and the parent/guardian/family member will be directed to leave the gym and the school. If they refuse and/or cause an issue – their team will forfeit the game.
o Depending on the issue, a trespass warning may be issued to that parent/guardian/family member.
Orange Shirt Day – Thursday September 26
We have launched the school year by focusing on classroom learning related to our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through education. Contemplating truth seeking and resilience is one of the ways our community is committing to the reconciliation process. Bishop Pinkham School’s commitment this school year is to build educator knowledge on how to integrate Indigenous knowledges, languages, and teaching methods into classrooms. Specific learning related to the significance of Orange Shirt Day will occur this week. Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt. Families may wish to visit the Orange Shirt Society website with their children to learn more about what inspired the movement: https://orangeshirtday.org/phyllis-story/
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
All staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Orange Shirt Day & National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site.
